چکیده

To examine the domain decomposition of a coupled Monte Carlo nite element calculation, it is important to use a domain decomposition that is suitable for the individual models. We have developed a code that simulates a Monte Carlo calculation running on a massively parallel processor. This code is used to examine the load balancing behavior of three domain decomposition strategies for a Monte Carlo calculation. The results are presented.

Hierarchical fractional-step approximations and parallel kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms

We present a mathematical framework for constructing and analyzing parallel algorithms for lattice kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations. The resulting algorithms have the capacity to simulate a wide range of spatio-temporal scales in spatially distributed, non-equilibrium physiochemical processes with complex chemistry and transport micro-mechanisms. Rather than focusing on constructing exactl...

Hybrid and Parallel Domain-Decomposition Methods Development to Enable Monte Carlo for Reactor Analyses

This paper describes code and methods development at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory focused on enabling high-fidelity, large-scale reactor analyses with Monte Carlo (MC). Current state-of-the-art tools and methods used to perform “real” commercial reactor analyses have several undesirable features, the most significant of which is the non-rigorous spatial decomposition scheme. Monte Carlo me...

Domain decomposition strategies for the two-dimensional Wigner Monte Carlo Method

A domain decomposition approach for the parallelization of the Wigner Monte Carlo method allows the huge memory requirements to be distributed amongst many computational units, thereby making large multidimensional simulations feasible. Two domain decomposition techniques—a uniform slab and uniform block decomposition—are compared and the design and implementation of the block decomposition app...

Domain Decomposition Solution of Elliptic Boundary-Value Problems via Monte Carlo and Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods

Domain decomposition of two-dimensional domains on which boundary-value elliptic problems are formulated, is accomplished by probabilistic (Monte Carlo) as well as by quasi-Monte Carlo methods, generating only few interfacial values and interpolating on them. Continuous approximations for the trace of solution are thus obtained, to be used as boundary data for the sub-problems. The numerical tr...

A Parallel DSMC Implementation on Unstructured

The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is versatile computational technique suitable for the simulation of a wide range of gas ows. It can deal with thermo-chemical non-equilibrium eeects with relative ease. However its computational cost has limited its application to rareeed or simple transitional ows. However DSMC is well suited to implementation on powerful multi-processor architec...
